A wonderful lady in our community has offered to support our book club by providing funds to buy more books for you to read and keep. However, she would like to know more about you and our book club. She would like each of you to write a 1,000 word essay about our book club, how it impacts you, and what your goals are for the future. This is an excellent opportunity to put your writing skills to use! Please have your essays ready within the next two weeks. If you need help, we can work on them during our after school meetings on Mondays and Tuesdays, and you will be able to type them in the computer lab. Who knows, I may can even convince your language arts teachers to give you extra credit for completing this!;-)

An important lesson for you P.E.A.R.L.S. to learn is that often times there are many great opportunities just waiting for you to reach out and grab them. There are people willing to help you and support you and who want to be your biggest fan in becoming successful young ladies, but they can't do it for you. Sometimes you have to put forth just a little bit of extra effort in order to make things better for yourself. You can't wait around for life to give you everything for free...you have to make it happen! I can guarantee that every successful woman that you may look up to and admire had to work to get to where they are at. They may have had to go the extra mile many times and go beyond just the minimum requirement or do things that they really didn't want to do, but it pays off in the end. This is one of those times. You have a chance to improve our book club for yourselves, not for Ms. Embry, but for YOU! A lot of great things could happen with our group, but you have to be a part of it! This is just the beginning!
